Cherilyn Archibald

Traditional Healing Program Coordinator

705-269-6222, ext. 410

I am Flying the Sky Woman from the Eagle Clan, my English name is Cherilyn Archibald (Wesley), born and raised in Moosonee, Ontario. I was adopted into the Taykwa Tagamou Nation through marriage and together we share 6 children (1 pre-deceased) and 6 grandchildren.  I reside in Cochrane, Ontario with my husband, our daughter, and my stepson.

Since accepting my role as the Traditional Healing Program Coordinator, my focus is to continue helping our people gain tools to help them on their path in life.  With my own path, I have broadened my knowledge in the struggles that our people face -- past, present and future, and all the barriers that us as a people face on a day-to-day basis.  I truly believe that we need to educate our young by staying true to their roots.  I feel it is very important that our youth and children know who they are, where they come from, and to feel that great sense of pride in themselves in being Indigenous and to keep our tradition and ceremonies strong and vibrant.

I have been on my sobriety/healing journey for 14 years. I am a Sundancer, a Pipe Carrier, a Hand Drummer, and a Helper.  I have received my Social Service Worker Diploma, Mental Health and Addictions Diploma and Human resources business Management Certificate.  Throughout my different career paths, I have sat on many boards and committees within our territory and gained a lot of knowledge and experience to better assist our communities.

On my personal time, I love attending traditional ceremonies, hand drumming, Pow Wows, Round Dances, spending time on Mother Earth camping.  I live by our ancestors' traditional values and teachings and keep myself grounded by living the good life.  I look forward to working with all communities and coming to visit all communities soon.
