
MINI MOC WALK CHALLENGE:
Heart Health Edition
February is Heart Health Month. Join us for a special edition of the Moc Walk Challenge for Heart Health Month, which will focus on getting steps in for our cardiovascular health.
The mini two-week challenge will begin on Saturday, February 14 and will end on Friday, February 27. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, March 3.

About the Challenge
The Moc Walk Challenge is a free-to-join initiative designed to promote physical activity, cardiovascular health and diabetes awareness among Mushkegowuk community members and their families (including Weenusk First Nation). This special edition of the Moc Walk Challenge runs for two (2) weeks, from Saturday, February 14 to Friday, February 27, 2026.
Participants track and submit weekly steps, which allows them to see their progress and qualify for prizes through a tiered system:
Tier Three: 70,000 cumulative steps (avg. 5,000/day)
Tier Two: 105,000 cumulative steps (avg. 7,500/day)
Tier One: 140,000 cumulative steps (avg. 10,000/day)
your participation
Participants must be 10 years of age or older, be affiliated with a Mushkegowuk community, and reside in Canada.
Record and submit your weekly steps by the deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted. Your combined steps over the two-week challenge will determine which tier you are entered into.
Tier 1:
mininum of 140,000 cumulative steps (10,000 steps per day)
Tier 2:
minimum of 105,000 cumulative steps
(~7,500 steps per day)
Tier 3:
mininum of 70,000 cumulative steps (~5,000 steps per day)
Steps can be accumulated for all daily activities, from the time you wake up until the time you go to bed.
You can use any personal tracking device of your choose (smart watch, smartphone, pedometer, etc). Tracking devices will not be provided for this challenge.

Winners will be selected by random draw according to the tiered system. Your name will be entered in the draw of the tier you have reached.
There will be two winners per tier:
Tier 1:
$400 gift card to a sporting goods store of your choice
Tier 2:
$300 gift card to a sporting goods store of your choice
Tier 3:
$200 gift card to a sporting goods store of your choice
Bonus winners:
Two winners will be randomly selected from all participants who reach a tier. Each winner will receive a $200 gift card to a sporting goods store of their choice.
Winners will be drawn on Tuesday, March 3 at 12PM on our Facebook page.
*The odds of winning are dependent on the number of eligible participants completing the challenge.
**There is no cash alternative for the prizes.

Draw: March 3, 12PM
Names of all individuals who have reached a tier will be posted on our website and social media at 12PM on Tuesday, March 3 -- if you believe there is a discrepancy in your calculated steps, please email mocwalk@mushkegowuk.ca by 9AM on March 4 for us to verify. Please send photo evidence of your two weeks. The draw will take place at 12PM on Wednesday, March 4, the list of eligible winners will be final.
Competition Rules
1. Eligibility
Participants must be 10 years of age or older, be affiliated with a Mushkegowuk community, and reside in Canada. Mushkegowuk communities include: Attawapiskat First Nation, Chapleau Cree First Nation, Fort Albany First Nation, Kashechewan First Nation, Moose Cree First Nation, Missanabie Cree First Nation, Taykwa Tagamou Nation, and Weenusk First Nation. The challenge is also open to Mushkegowuk employees.

The competition is free to join.

To be eligible, you must register for the challenge by Friday, February 13 at 11:59PM.

To qualify for prizes, participants must submit their weekly steps by the deadlines outlined in the challenge schedule and reach the minimum step requirement for the total challenge (minimum of 70,000 steps).
3. Step Requirements

There is no weekly or daily step requirement.

We will tally your steps over the course of the challenge, and you will be entered in a draw based on a tiered system. The more steps completed, the bigger the prize available to be won. The tiers are as follows:

4. Prizes

Once the challenge concludes, winners will be selected by random draw from all eligible entries based on the tiered system.

Prizes vary per tier. Two winners will be selected per tier.

Tier 1: Two (2) winners will receive a $400 sporting goods gift card

Tier 2: Two (2) winners will receive a $300 sporting goods gift card

Tier 3: Two (2) winners will receive a $200 sporting goods gift card

Bonus winners: Two (2) winners will be selected from the overall pool of eligible participants who have reached any tier. The two (2) winners will receive a $200 sporting goods gift card.

5. Draw Details

Draw will take place on Wednesday, March 3 at 12PM on the Mushkegowuk Health Facebook page.
6. Odds of Winning
The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received per tier.
7. Notification
Winners will be contacted using the email and/or phone number provided during registration. If a selected winner cannot be contacted or does not respond within two (2) weeks of notification, an alternate winner may be selected.
8. Privacy
Participant information will be used solely for administering the challenge and prize draws. Winner names and their associated community will be shared on Mushkegowuk social media and web platforms.
8. General Conditions
By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these rules and the decisions of the organizers, which are final.

Is the Moc Walk Challenge only open to Mushkegowuk members?
The Moc Walk Challenge is open to all Mushkegowuk community members. Individuals participating in the challenge must have a band affiliation with one of the following communities: Fort Albany, Kashechewan, Attawapiskat, Moose Cree, Chapleau Cree, Taykwa Tagamou Nation, Missanabie Cree or Weenusk First Nation. The challenge is open to Mushkegowuk individuals living on and off reserve in Canada as well as Mushkegowuk employees.
How do you register?
You can submit your registration form. The deadline for registration is 11:59 PM February 13, 2026.
How do you record your steps?
You can use any personal tracking device of your choosing (Apple Watch, Smart Watch, FitBit, Pedometer, any cellphone device).
Are steps only counted when going for walks?
No. You can begin recording your steps from the time you wake up until the time you go to bed. The aim of this challenge is to get you moving more - choose a form of activity that is enjoyable to you and see what you can accomplish throughout the day.
Will we receive a device to record our steps?
No.
When do we submit our steps?
Steps must be submitted weekly. Deadlines can be found on the challenge schedule.
Where do we submit our steps?
Submit your steps online using our weekly submission forms. If you have trouble accessing these forms for any reason, please submit your steps by email to mocwalk@mushkegowuk.ca
I couldn’t upload or submit my steps because… “I have no internet.” “I was busy.” “I was travelling.” Etc.,
You are required to submit your steps weekly to remain eligible for the final prize draws. If you are unable to submit yourself, you can have someone submit on your behalf or you can submit your steps early if you won't have connection. Submitting your steps is YOUR responsibility. If you do not submit your steps before the submission deadline, you will be eliminated -- no exceptions.
